Escaping Violence Payment Program (EVP)
What is the Escaping Violence Payment Program?
Are you or someone you know trying to leave, or have recently left, a situation involving intimate partner violence? The Escaping Violence Payment (EVP) Program provides financial support to help you move forward and establish a safe, violence-free home.
You may be eligible for the payment if you meet all of the following criteria:
- You are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a protected Special Category Visa living in Australia.
- You are 18 years or older.
- You are experiencing financial stress and have not received the EVP in the past 12 months.
- You are planning to change, or have changed, your living arrangements within the past 12 weeks due to intimate partner violence.
All these conditions must be fulfilled to qualify for the payment.
Such violence may take various forms, including:
- Physical, verbal, or sexual abuse
- Emotional, spiritual, or psychological abuse
- Economic abuse
- Behaviors that are threatening, coercive, or aimed at controlling or dominating the other person.
If you are planning to leave a violent partner or have recently left and are facing financial challenges in creating a safe life, you may be eligible for:
- Up to $1,500 in financial assistance, including vouchers for essential items
- Goods and services, such as removalists, rental bonds, or essentials for setting up a new home
- Comprehensive support, including casework assistance from the EVP provider.

Anyone in Australia experiencing a personal crisis or having thoughts of suicide can call 13 11 14 or text 0477 13 11 14 during the evening hours (6 PM to midnight AEDT).
A trained professional will connect you with a crisis service in your state or territory.
