This Youth Homelessness Matters Day we reflect on the experiences of young people experiencing homelessness and what is needed to drive change.
On average 720 young people have become homeless this week due to the impacts of domestic and family violence. Young people are more likely to be couch surfing which leaves them vulnerable to exploitation and harm.
A third of young people presenting alone to specialist homelessness services identified as indigenous 42,763 children and young people (under 25 years) presented alone to a specialist homelessness service last year.
The most common reasons young people seek assistance:
- Domestic and family violence
- Housing Crisis
- Relationship/family breakdown
